Love it, especially the "virtuous vitalism" and MK-Ultra speculations. I'm surprised JC (I mean Judy Chicago, not Our Savior) quoted Derrick Jensen, but 2013 was before he became a super-TERF. I once wrote about how he was the only author I ever read that made me consider censorship—not for gender politics but because one of his books advocates blowing up dams etc. for green reasons. I didn't think it should be totally censored, but it was being sold at big retail chain bookstores. I thought that was maybe a bit much.

Totally off-topic, but a fun new essay on The Black Prince just dropped, thought you might be interested:

Thank you! The Derrick Jensen/TERF link was pure synchronicity since I didn’t make the connection (consciously at least), but it’s good a reminder that although the Gaia fanatics and Baphomet devotees are often lumped together by critics of the incipient neopaganism, they represent very different attitudes towards Mother Nature.

And thank you for pointing me to the Black Prince article - I think our gender discourse would be a lot healthier if we looked to Murdoch rather than Butler for inspiration (which is why I think, for all her irresponsibility, Chu is a step in the right direction).

Love it. No Brat Summer without some psychedelic optimism.

Thanks! I think my position can more accurately be described, to borrow a phrase from a Marxist, as psychedelic hope without optimism. But I’m still working through the distinction.
